Dickinson is an endearing midwife who lives in a Sicilian village where she is constantly hounded by the towns lecherous married men. When the mens wives decide theyve had enough, they unite and put a ban on sexual relations. They figure if they bear no children, then Dickinsons services will no longer be needed, forcing her to leave. Chevalier, the village priest, informs Dickinson of the situation and urges her to marry. She weds Gabriele Ferzetti, a widower who lives in a castle, and thereby eases the marital tensions in the village. It turns out, however, that none of the women kept their no-sex pledge when they all announce they are pregnant. (texte officiel du distributeur)
