Even though the poster almost makes it look like an adventure film, it is actually a pretty good drama that is mainly based on interesting characters. I don't know if the male lead, Trevor Howard, strikes you as more interesting than other actors, but he certainly handles the role of a man who wants to achieve a lot but doesn't have it in him. This is a good psychological drama.
