Dans un asile d’aliénés, un vieux marin travaillant comme concierge, cherche à libérer sa femme incarcérée depuis une tentative de noyade dont elle fut sauvée par sa fille. Dans ses rêves, il évoque le bonheur du passé. Malgré ses efforts, sa femme traumatisée, refuse de quitter l’asile. Le marin finit par se résigner à sa vie d’homme à tout faire… (Festival International du Film de La Rochelle)

The Japanese film A Page of Madness is about impressions. It's a film you'll watch because the act of watching it can leave something in you. There are images here that are surreal even today - it's like a work of art that simply doesn't get old and that is to some extent a kind of depressing depiction of a time or a particular event. From the opening credits, the Japanese are hitting you hard and it works all the way through.
