anglais A Russian love epic they way it is meant to be - bittersweet, full of foresight, absurdity, and full of humanity. If there is something that spoils it for me, then perhaps it is that Michalkov's directing is just too sweeping, and in places it gets too carried away by the breadth of the story... then we also have the overly "western" voice of the narrator, which brings a lot of unnecessary melodrama to the otherwise very natural style of the narration. However, the performances of Julie Ormond and Oleg Menshikov are spectacular, the music beautiful, the humorous places irresistibly Russian, and the entire love story is sympathetically believable. The last time I enjoyed such a great romantic film was probably when I watched Doctor Zhivago. ()

anglais One of the most beautiful love stories I've ever seen. Beautiful music, production design, and performances – there is nothing to fault. Oblomov is still my favourite Mikhalkov film, but The Barber of Siberia is not far behind. ()
