N'ayant plus ses parents, Mimiko, une petite fille, habite avec sa grand-mère dans une jolie maisonnette. Alors que cette dernière s'est absentée quelques jours, un bébé panda et son papa pénêtrent dans la maison... et s'y installent ! Comme dans une vraie famille, la petite fille va vivre alors des jours extraordinaires, jusqu'à ce qu'un policier local s'intéresse d'un peu trop près aux nouveaux occupants de la maison... Mimiko, the protagonist, is very similar to Pippi Longstocking with her red-haired braids, her independence and the fact that she has the whole house to herself (for a while). If you overlook the fact that little Mimiko is also sort of the daughter of the great Panda and the mother of the Panda's son, which makes her effectively a cousin, this is an easy-going, if somewhat infantile, one-off whose target audience is definitely children. In the visuals of Daddy Panda, you can clearly see traits of the later Totoro, who is qualitatively different.
