Sur son lit de mort, Alfredo, roi sans couronne, est ramené à de lointains souvenirs de jeunesse et à l’époque où il rêvait de devenir pompier. La rencontre avec l’instructeur Afonso, du corps des pompiers, ouvre un nouveau chapitre dans la vie des deux jeunes hommes plongés dans l’amour et le désir, et à la volonté de changer le statu quo. It takes a lot of courage to call this film a musical. Throughout, the main character sings once in the woods without music and then dances to music without words in a firehouse. Casting non-dancing firemen who are then supposed to play and dance to the music makes for one hell of a spectacle - perhaps the worst dance performance in cinema history. The whole film is shallow, basically moving nothing forward except the relationship between the firefighters. The flashforward or flashback to the future is not related to the whole film at all, it is a kind of embellishment of the film that doesn't work and makes no dramatic sense. The director of the film, João Pedro Rodrigues, should rather consider becoming an assistant director again...
