A 1968 Italian comedy about a Sicilian woman, Assunta Patanè (Monica Vitti), who after being kidnapped by mistake by a Sicilian gang and "dishonored" by the gang's leader, Vincenzo Macaluso (Carlo Giuffrè), travels to England with a pistol intending to murder him. Along the way she becomes a beautiful and glamorous modern lady. When the lover reappears to claim his "rights," she realizes the sweeter revenge than killing him is to dump him instead. Stanley Baker co-stars as an English doctor who tries to help her. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. (Cinemax)

anglais “The right guy is supposed to try it! But the right woman has to protect herself!" Italian comedies rarely take place in the real world, and hyperbole tends to be necessary when watching them. The Girl with a Pistol is similar, and although my favorite Stanley Baker, for example, felt slightly cluelessly to me, Monica Vitti was great as a hot Sicilian fire on the dry Isles. ()
