(Crunchyroll)

anglais I love going to the theater and watching plays, so I simply could not pass up the chance to watch an anime series based on traditional Japanese theater. I was expecting a work that was emotional, intriguing, presented some interesting problems connected with their environment, and had an engaging audiovisual performance, with an emphasis on certain aesthetics that theater is supposed to evoke. In addition to that, I expected some quality acting performances, because it is up to the actors to convince me, so that I find their performances and emotions believable. Well, I am actually quite happy. It was an interesting glimpse into a world of rivalry and friendship that, while often was perhaps a little too idealistic for me, was fortunately, not too much to significantly spoil my impression of the show. There were some really good emotional moments, and I found the drama engaging, plus, the acting performances were good too. I was just sorry that when it came to the actual theatrical performances, every now and then someone felt like they had to tell me how good or bad the acting was. Do you know just why the Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju anime series is so awesome? Because there the characters show you directly through the rakugo performances themselves how great they are, so you do not need anyone to tell you, you can just witness it yourself! That is what I thought Kageki Shojo!! lacked - more actual theatrical acting! On the other hand, it had really well-written dialogues, likable characters, and even a certain aesthetic that made me interested in watching future episodes and the whole thing was, summed up in two words, pretty good. 7/10.
