In this documentary filmmaker and editor Gabriele Voss gives a fascinating glimpse into the process of editing and what it represents. The definitive film is often discovered in the editing suite. The editor is co-author and this involves rhythm, composition, and a sensitivity to time and space. The word cut is synonymous with editing, it represents the mechanical act of splicing film together. Whereas editing or montage is the creative phase at which the raw material of film is transformed into the final product – a vital component of the success of any film. The film follows Voss’ thoughts including interviews with colleagues, such as Mathilde Bonnefoy (Run Lola Run) and Wolfgang Widerhofer (Elsewhere). All of them agree that editing is a key point of the dramatic impact and that editing becomes a finding process that requires creativity and intuition. (DOK.fest München)
