There are approximately 71.000 people in prison in Turkey. More than 10.000 of these people are political prisoners. The Ministry of Justice is in the process of putting new cell-block type (F type) prisons into use, even though some are still under construction and have not been completed. This prison model has been marketed as being up to European standards. Interviews with past political prisoners held in cell-block prisons from Germany, Italy, America and Spain and their families, as well as with experts who have researched this topic, reveals that the model system itself is not without flaws. Silent Death, while exploring the thirty-year-long experimental solution of using isolated confinement prisons, presents the viewers with the wide gap between its concept and reality.
