Biographie

Olivia Thirlby, a native New Yorker, made her feature film debut as the lead role in THE SECRET, produced by Luc Besson and directed by Vincent Perez, in which she starred opposite David Duchovny and Lili Taylor. The film was distributed and released in France in 2007.

In 2006, she gained national attention by appearing in Paul Greengrass' award-winning film UNITED 93, a real-time account of the events of one of the September 11th hijacked planes that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Olivia then nabbed the Leah role in Jason Reitman's Oscar nominated film JUNO opposite Ellen Page, Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner and garnered attention as a lead in Jonathan Levine's Sundance award winning film THE WACKNESS opposite Sir Ben Kingsley and Josh Peck. Other notable feature credits include David Gordon Green's Sundance film SNOW ANGELS opposite Sam Rockwell and Kate Beckinsale, Ivan Reitman's comedy NO STRINGS ATTACHED with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, WHAT GOES UP opposite Steve Coogan, THE ANSWER MAN with Jeff Daniels, Kenneth Lonnergan's film MARGARET with Anna Paquin, Matthew Broderick, Mark Ruffalo, Allison Janney and Matt Damon, UNCERTAINTY opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Brett Ratner's NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU with Anton Yelchin, SOLITARY MAN with Michael Douglas and Jesse Eisenberg, Daryl Wein's BREAKING UPWARDS and short film EVE opposite Lauren Bacall, written and directed by Natalie Portman.

Her television credits include the recurring role of Suzanne, Jason Schwartzman's ex-girlfriend on the HBO series BORED TO DEATH and she also played the series regular role of Jeena in MTV/ Good Humor animated series GOOD VIBES opposite Josh Gad and Adam Brody.

Thirlby made her off-Broadway debut in the Atlantic Theater Company production of FAARGUT NORTH written by Beau Willimon and directed by Doug Hughes, starring alongside John Gallagher, Jr. and Chris Noth. She later reprised this role in the West Coast premiere of the production at the Geffen Playhouse opposite Chris Pine. Olivia's last theatre appearance was as the lead opposite Topher Grace in Paul Weitz's play LONELY, I'M NOT directed by Trip Cullman at the Second Stage Theatre in New York, where she played Heather, an ambitious and blind young business woman who has to overcome her own obstacles in order to achieve emotional success.

Prior to that, Thirlby had extensive credits in classical Shakespeare, as she studied at both the American Globe Theatre and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

In the last few years, Olivia has been kept busy, appearing as a lead in Lionsgate's DREDD opposite Karl Urban and Lena Headey which premiered at the Toronto Film Fest. She also starred in NOBODY WALKS opposite Rosemarie Dewitt and John Krasinski which circles around an artist (Thirlby) who disrupts the daily routine of a Los Angeles family. The film debuted at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. In Paul Weitz's film BEING FLYNN, Olivia starred opposite Robert De Niro, Julianne Moore and Paul Dano about a young man in his twenties, working at various homeless shelters in Boston; Olivia played Paul Dano's love interest.

Olivia Thirlby attended the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival for two films: 5 TO 7 opposite Glenn Close and Frank Langella in which she played Jane, and JUST BEFORE I GO directed by Courtney Cox, in the lead role of Greta.

Olivia can be seen also in Screen Gems comedy feature THE WEDDING RINGER opposite Kevin Hart and has just wrapped indie feature WELCOME TO HAPPINESS with Nick Offerman. Olivia returned to theatre in 2014 in the lead role of Romi in Eve Ensler's play O.P.C. with Melissa Leo, which opened in December at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
