Leobeu pikseon (2012)

anglais Surprisingly adult, with no unnecessary bickering or love triangles. I was also surprised by the relative openness regarding sex and "hair" – to shave or not to shave? That's what I liked about it, unfortunately the film was hampered by its frequent lack of seriousness. It's not exactly a comedy, nor an over-sweetened romance between two lovebirds. It's just an ordinary story of two grown-ups who've been through something and found love. I guess that's why the little gestures, the declarations of love, are so enjoyable to watch. Goo Joo-wol's story reminded me of Detective Lovesick at the end, only this time with a "happy ending".

Hjóka (2012) (série)

anglais A nice unpretentious high school story spiced up with the solving of various mysteries. The mysteries weren't anything surprising, but that's not the point of this anime. Rather, it's that four different people got together, had an effect on each other, and without realizing it, really started to change (grow up?) subtly and view the world a little differently. Strangely enough, the viewer was able to see this, by which I mean that the filmmakers managed to capture it well. On the other hand, we can see more character development in the boys, and the girls are not very much involved in the series from that perspective. Rather, Oreki and Fukube are there as a lubricant for a change. But it's still pretty fun on the whole. The OST wasn't exceptional, for me it falls under the "forgettable" column. The animation was pleasing, the characters not particularly annoying, the story not particularly overcomplicated or so simple as to annoy the viewer. A nice 3 stars.

Gegege no njóbó (2010)

anglais So here's the bottom line. If you don't know who Mizuki Shigeru is and what his fate was, you will absolutely not enjoy it and the ending will leave you very uncertain. On the other hand, if you know him, or better yet have seen the series before the movie, it's a whole different ball of wax. You'll enjoy the artistic shots, the scenes that feel almost theatrical, and you'll respect the loss of naivety and the rush of "realism", which wasn't in the series. From life, a poor one, but one full of smiles and crooked teeth.

Wataši no otoko (2014)

anglais A harsh film about two languishing souls who found each other and wanted to live only in their own world. They were doing just that until reality shattered their idyll. It's not a film for a quiet Sunday afternoon, not for relaxing, but for watching closely and taking in these two. Unfortunately, I was occasionally annoyed by the cinematography, which is a real shame in a film where not much is said, where everything is said mainly through images or music. I must admit, though, that looking at the frozen sea made me feel cold.

Nekozamurai (2013) (série)

anglais It's definitely not to be watched all at once, just an episode a day and you’ll be satisfied. Such a nice bedtime story with a simple plot and a simple samurai. And very nice music. If you like cats, you definitely won't want to miss it.

The World of Kanako (2014)

anglais Golden youth. Golden police. Golden mud. Golden comedy. Filthy to the core, but well made. Brutal fascination with death. That's probably why everyone loved Kanako. She sought her out sadistically. Existence must have been pretty unbearable. Despite the brutality and a certain, almost comedic, excessiveness, I think it's a film that has something to say and is essentially a contemporary Japanese critique of society (just take a moment to read a Japanese newspaper and its crime section and you'll get it). You can smell the seed of Kokuhaku on it, but it bloomed bloody indeed.

Gangnam 1970 (2015)

anglais Filmed very solidly, but the music was even better. Unfortunately, the footage is overwhelming, the story uninteresting, and there are so many characters that blend together to the point where it's just not watchable on the first viewing and you just have a mess (it's probably better on a second viewing, but given the running time, you can’t make me). So the bold erotic scenes were surprising, the over-the-top violence was not (it is a Korean gangster movie after all), but I still felt that some scenes were just extra and didn't say anything. As for Lee Min-Ho, he was basically the same as always – I don't care that he was a handsome gangster, what bothered me more about him was his voice, which just didn't fit this kind of character. On the other hand, his work with his eyes, which he used to communicate so much, was very good. Bottom line, an average film for me, but above average filmmaking.

Kinkjori ren'ai (2014)

anglais It's actually a terrible film. It sets up certain expectations right at the beginning, but then demolishes them with awkwardness and scenes you don't want to watch (I admit I had to speed things up a bit towards the end because I just couldn't take it anymore). Yamapi just proved my "impression" here – he's not good at acting anymore, or he just picks roles so stupid that he can't play them. Komatsu Nana and Yamamoto Mizuki were a delight, they're clever girls. Nothing above average, but at least they were entertaining. The story is really shallow, and since the movie is almost two hours long, it was impossible to endure. At times, it seemed like the filmmakers were trying to make it seem more "arty" (like longer shots of the landscape with just the two of them, etc.), but it didn't work and instead felt rather awkward. If I were one of the actors and went to the premiere, I'd probably have collapsed in shame. But otherwise it was quite good, there was a good scene here and there. On the bright side, I didn't find the characters (any of them) exceptionally unbearable; on the contrary, surprisingly for such a genre, they were all quite tolerable (which is basically why I'm giving it a whole star :-D). Why see the film? Perhaps only if you are charmed by Yamapi's bad acting, otherwise a waste of time.

Le Conte de la princesse Kaguya (2013)

anglais This film shows what classic Japanese stories look like. It's not so much about what happens, but how it happens and where it happens. So if you're a person who likes modern storytelling, this is not a story that can hold your interest. But if you like classic Japan, this is it – the colors, the characters, the narrative style, the music. The charm of the story is reinforced by the beautiful pastel colors and "ordinary animation", which has been around in Japan since ancient times. And we are lucky enough to have the story published in book form – "Taketori monogatari".

Jangmibit yeonindeul (2014) (série)

anglais Good at the beginning, so cute, we're all having a great time. But then it gets crazy, there's always someone fighting, crying, one time it's this, the next time it's that, it loses it's charm and becomes horribly illogical (which sometimes doesn't matter if it's fun, which in this case it wasn't very much). I had to skip a lot of scenes to finish watching it and get to the cheesy ending. If you're not sure whether to watch it because you don't have that much time, but maybe you like the main characters... ...know that there's still no point. Weak. 2*.
