Le Petit Prince (2015)

anglais This version of The Little Prince is quite profound. It is not just another shallow animated narrative with a boring story where you know exactly what is going to happen. With this movie, you just have a hunch sometimes, and sometimes it can surprise you, and it does not really matter if you read the book or just learned about it in school. The Little Prince book was very charming, and this movie adaptation has a certain charm as well. Furthermore, it managed to move me, and therefore I can say that I loved the story, and even though it was quite sad in places, I actually felt like I lived through it. Furthermore, I think the movie’s producers portrayed the contrast between the colorful world of those who live and the grey and the drab world of those who just survive very well. If I add to that very good soundtrack, interesting characters, and a cool cuddly fox, I have a very good experience. On the other hand, I realize that the animation was not exactly top-notch, even though I must admit that I found the combination of the two types of animation used in this movie very well-executed and original. When I do my math, I am pleasantly surprised and my final impression is really indeed very good. 8.6/10.

L’Incroyable destin de Savva (2015)

anglais I should be very strict because what I just saw was definitely not average... I am going to start with what is good about this movie, and that is the soundtrack. The music of the soundtrack is pretty well selected and matches the narrative, and it was pleasant to listen to. I have watched enough movies with narratives concerning a boy and his journey of discovery. However, I somehow cannot understand that after a boy declares that anything is possible if you believe in it with all your heart, he then has to embark on an epic journey only to find out what he already knew from the beginning regardless. However, then again, the movie probably would not have any narrative to speak of without that. As for this movie's narrative, it was also quite peculiar. It seemed quite good that we get introduced to all sorts of different peoples and cultures throughout the journey, which are usually quite original, although what happens in between, how it all builds up, and how it ends is not so great. I think the movie's creators simply wanted to showcase a sort of epic Lord of the Rings-style battle, so what does it matter that what leads up to it does not make that much sense? The twists are so weird that you cannot get your head around them at first, and eventually, you either learn not to think about them or get angry and stop watching. In general, the way the "fellowship"," or if you want "the group that follows the magician," gets together seems somehow random, forced, and quite peculiar. So is the strange romantic subplot between Savva and the Shaman of the tribe Shisha's granddaughter. Again, the whole thing feels like the screenwriters just kind of decided she would be stuck in there, although they did not want to do more with her or develop her character. There was not much to speak of as far as the comedy goes. Even the references to other movies did not work for me. Even the line "come with me if you want to live" just felt weird again at the point and moment where it was dropped. The worst part was probably the ending and Savva's slow-motion run through the field of roses "to find his love" - although no, it was not romantic and sweet, it was just dumb. Add to that the hyenas that look like they escaped from the circus, the three-headed monkey queen, the pink "Puffy" creature, and many other strange things and characters that made me shake my head. Indeed, it was either stupid or weird most of the time, even though there were a few moments that I liked and that were very original. For example, there was the "magician" who lived in a house with chicken legs picking the wrong kid to eat. So back to the beginning, "I should be very strict because what I just saw was definitely not average, and it was so stupid that it was pretty good. So, as a result, and even though my brain tells me I should give it two stars at most, I am still not going to because I just like weird stuff sometimes". 5/10.

Little Witch Academia: Mahó šikake no Parade (2015)

anglais The movie Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade is the sequel of the first special short film Little Witch Academia. It is a little longer and a little more thought-out narrative than the first movie, and still interesting, charming, quite amusing, a little endearing, and very enjoyable. This franchise definitely deserves a longer fully-fledged anime series adaptation of some kind because, in addition to the really good setting, it also showcases a lot of interesting characters and good ideas. Admittedly I am not a fan of big social events, so the word "parade" only elicits a bored sigh of "right, a parade..." although I quite enjoyed it in this movie. The soundtrack stood out, which I also enjoyed, and it complemented the sometimes pleasant and sometimes suspenseful atmosphere well. 8/10.

Man Seeking Woman (2015) (série)

anglais I have nothing against jokes taken to extremes, but this is literally way too over-the-top. It is a comedy whose first episode did not make me laugh even once, and the only word I can think of is embarrassing. In addition, unfortunately, it does not get better, so the comedy in this show does not work for me. Drop after the fifth episode.

Marvel's Daredevil (2015) (série)

anglais "Is it really that good?" That is exactly the question I asked myself when I saw the reviews on FilmBooster and IMDb. I am not a big comic book fan. I probably like the DC universe and characters more than the Marvel universe, to be honest. I thought Ben Affleck’s Daredevil movie was completely mediocre, so I was very skeptical beforehand, which was a good thing. I guess it meant I could be surprised more. I was impressed by the dark and gloomy atmosphere from the first episode. I was quickly caught up in the grey, corrupt, and crime-ridden environment, and I found the main male protagonist quite appealing. Furthermore, when the charismatic male protagonist was joined by an even better and more charismatic villain/antagonist, whom I understood and honestly felt quite sorry for at times, I really enjoyed their fights and the struggle to save the city (after all, they were both being sincere). As for the brutality and the fact that we occasionally see some broken bones, a festering wound, or instructions on how to bash someone's head in with a car door, I did not mind that. It is more like something I have come to expect in an anime series with that kind of atmosphere (they are not going to change the spots on a leopard). Otherwise, the most positive thing about this show is that it shows us that nothing is black and white or without issues. It also throws up questions regarding morality and ethics (like how far can I go in fighting crime without becoming a criminal myself?) in a way that  could be understood by anyone. In summary, and going back to the original question, I started with: "Is it really that good?" My answer after watching the first season is "Yes, it is." 9/10.

Mikagura gakuen kumikjoku (2015) (série)

anglais This show is a terrible load of crap with a weird story and crazy characters, dominated by the crazy and horny Eruna, and for some unknown reason, I enjoyed it. The hyperactive, hysterical, perverted, and insane Eruna was quite entertaining. I guess even shows like this get to me sometimes, which is why I give practically every release a chance at the beginning of every year. However, luckily I did not completely lose my judgment, so the rating is the better side of three stars. 6/10.

Military! (2015) (série)

anglais Miritari! is pretty mad and stars little girls with army weapons and equipment. I thought it was quite cute. Occasionally I even got a slight chuckle out of something and since the running time of one episode is only four minutes, it does not bother me. However, it did not give me anything other than the above, and this is not satisfying enough to make it at least an average show, so it is only worth two stars.

Momokuri (2015) (série)

anglais Love can take different forms. It can be passionate, crazy, romantic, dangerous, beautiful, etc. However, you can sum up the love between the protagonists in this show in one word - cute. The main male protagonist is appealing, the main female protagonist is shy, which is adorable, and the interaction between them and how they both blush regularly in every episode is cute. It is an enjoyable way to watch two shy young kids who have a crush on each other and are trying to get together, even though it is very slow and clumsy due to their nature. Sure, Yuki "Kuri" Kurihara is rightly obsessed with Shinya "Momo" Momotsuki, and at times one can question whether this obsession is healthy or whether it is stalking. However, as Yuno Gasai taught me in Future Diary, anything goes, and Kuri is not a danger to anything or anyone. Plus, her interest in Momo is pretty cute to watch. It is enjoyable, fresh, and appealing; plus, it has just the right running time to keep me from getting bored. I kind of like it. 7/10.

Monster musume no iru ničidžó (2015) (série)

anglais "This is not an animal porn! We like to call it inter-species erotica." I do not know why, but those were the words that came to mind when I watched the first episode. If I remember correctly, they were said in Clerks II by a guy who was being paid to have sex with a donkey. Just as I was not convinced then, I was not sure I wanted to continue watching this show. I do not mean to be narrow-minded; it is just that even my taste has limits, and this show has crossed the line. I put the first episode on, and most of the time, I just wondered what the hell I was watching and, more importantly, why I was watching it. If it is supposed to be amusing, I honestly did not find it very funny; after all, the jokes were mostly clichéd. There it was obviously ecchi and there were some weird moments like how a part woman, part snake creature can wear panties, and even with those, I wondered if that is what I would have to put up with for the rest of the season. However, let us say it might be entertaining for some people. Is it a love story!? There was some romance, although I found the main female protagonist quite annoying at times, even though there were moments where I felt quite sorry for her and thought that judging her just because she is part woman, part snake is not very nice. Even her male counterpart was pretty nice in places, and the way he stood up for her was relatively nice. However, from what we know so far, it is looking more like harem zoo porn full of crazy ecchi where it kills all the notions of real romance. Is this show original?! No doubt, although again, it is a question of what direction it will take. The provisional conclusion I made after the first episode was therefore quite obvious. I gave it another chance because I was quite curious about the cute-looking harpy Lolita girl; however, if they were going to show some "inter-species erotica" with her in there, I thought to hell with it. I was actually looking forward to the charming harpy Lolita girl at the beginning of the second episode; I sat down in front of the screen; however, only half of the episode was devoted to her which I felt was unfair as more screen time was given to the hysterical snake girl. The harpy Lolita girl is supposed to be cute mainly because she is a "bird brain". Fine, why not? Clumsy and stupid girls who are also "bumkin" are still "cute" to me. However, there was an insane amount of fan service shoved in there. Even the second episode convinced me that this show would be like at least eighty percent fan service. The rest would be some situations where the "animal-girls" would be presented as misunderstood and where the main male protagonist would do all sorts of cool and daring things to give more of them a reason to join his harem. The additions to the harem so far this season have been one and a half girls per episode, and judging by the openings and endings, there are many more lining up. The second episode convinced me that I had assessed this anime series correctly and that it was just going to be a "zoo harem and crazy ecchi" full of nose bleeds, hands-on-breasts, shots of cleavage, crotches, and not-so-hilarious jokes. So if I take away the animals, it is not original at all, and since I am not into bestiality, I did not get anything out of this sort of show. Otherwise, it is worth mentioning the wild opening, where the "Monster, monster..." part especially is dangerously addictive and on the third listen, it was burned into my brain, and I could not get rid of it. In the end, I managed to watch five episodes because giving up after two episodes seemed unfair and also because I expected, as some reviewers and fans suggested, that another interesting character - Slime Girl Suu - would appear. Suu did appear, and I did not find it interesting at all, and when I saw what they planned to do with her in episode five, my patience with the animals ran out. I ended up in a situation where they added one girl to the harem per episode. I was convinced that there would be nothing but a lot of weird "inter-species erotica" in this show. However, I am going to award this show one star for the courage of the anime's creators to come up with something like this, and also for the harpy Lolita girl, who was at least a little intriguing. Dropped after the fifth episode and 2/10.

Mune, le gardien de la lune (2015)

anglais Before I went to the cinema to see this movie, I read a review I came across somewhere, and it stuck in my mind that "the main reason to go see Mune: Guardian of the Moon is the imaginary world it is set in." Well, that is true. It has a very straightforward narrative, which is quite predictable, and I have to say that I did not find it very moving, and the characters did not appeal to me either. For example, I was not too fond of the character Sohone for most of the movie. The only character that stuck in my head besides Mune and Glim was probably Spleen, who was like the robot Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. However, I liked the imaginary world, its colors, ideas, physics, and logic a lot; all of this had its magic. So did all the creatures that lived there, from the huge "temples" to the cute "furry tennis shoes" and all sorts of "crossbreeds" (the purest creature on the planet is a lamb with a bird's head and antlers). So instead of following a simple narrative, which was mostly predictable, my attention was diverted to various details and corners of this beautiful planet. I also have to appreciate the change of animation when the main protagonists entered Dreamland, it was surprising, and I liked it. To sum up, I thought Mune: Guardian of the Moon was below average, for the most part. However, the ideas and the beautiful setting pull it up to slightly above-average for me, 6.2/10.
