Tankový prapor (1991)

anglais This film is significantly worse than The Black Barons with cruder humor and less likable characters, although Olmer did not forget his filmmaking craft in this case. It functions as a series of more or less amusing military life episodes rather than a film with a strong storyline. I give it three stars. Overall impression: 50%.

La Belle et la Bête (1991)

anglais When Disney arrived in the 1930s with his team and the first animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it was innovative, precise, daring for its time, and simply unique. However, it soon became a template that greatly influenced and simplified animated production due to its commercial success. Dozens of other films were created following the same pattern, characterized by oversweetness, catchy songs, the same artistic techniques, and similar scripts that typically drew from proven fairy tale classics. Exactly the same can be said about the adaptation of the classic French fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast." This version is almost unbearable for me. I understand that it is appealing and collects points wherever possible, but for me, this film is an example of the decline of animated film trapped in audience expectations and financial calculations. Overall impression: 25%. By the way, even my children didn't enjoy this film and simply couldn't finish watching it.

L'As des as (1982)

anglais The film is naturally built on the charisma of Jean-Paul Belmondo, so audiences will enjoy plenty of his typical gestures and boastful reactions. In addition, the story is set in the interwar period of Nazi Germany and falls into the comedy genre, which is not very typical. There have been plenty of war comedies made in France, but this film is unique in its classification. The environment of a totalitarian regime, which wants to present itself in the best light to the world during the Olympic Games, is combined with the escape of a Jewish family from the Reich. Belmondo, a French trainer and friend of a high-ranking German officer from their time as rivals in the sky during World War I, is a more than worthy opponent to the German armed machinery. What works is the main storyline, but in my opinion, Oury's film fails in the effectiveness of the individual jokes, which simply seem either worn-out or unfinished to me. On the other hand, few films dare to portray Hitler as a comical character who engages in a car chase with the protagonist. Overall impression: 60%.

Suffering Man's Charity (2007)

anglais An absolute failure of a genre mix of a thriller, horror, mystery story, and comedy, where the second and fourth elements do not work at all and the whole thing is just a mess. The only positive thing is the cast, but with a non-functioning script and problematic direction, it all goes to waste. If this is supposed to follow in the footsteps of Edgar Allan Poe's work, then only as an unintended parody. Overall impression: 20%.

V pravé dopoledne (1964)

anglais A short animated slapstick about how a cunning sheriff cleverly deals with the rampant criminality in his district by creating bait, where individual gangs from the surrounding area gradually attack a carriage with loot to unsparingly disrupt each other. It humorously parodies the typical clichés of westerns. Overall impression: 60%.

Mamma Mia ! (2008)

anglais A well-known female film critic once wrote about this film that it is a crystalline kitsch, but so sweet and cute that it is simply impossible to be angry at it. This is where the poverty of film criticism manifests itself when almost all the reviews in newspapers and magazines are written by women, and gender bias inadvertently influences their reviews. I can only confirm that from my perspective, it is a kitsch unlike any other, but as a man, I wouldn't consider it cute. It can be considered a parody of itself, and even the songs of ABBA, which I grew up with, sound disgusting here and it's probably the worst use of musical motifs by a popular Swedish group that I can remember. While they usually enhance the atmosphere, such as in the case of the Australian film Muriel's Wedding, here they seem forced. Overall impression: 20%.

Le Maître d'armes (2006)

anglais It's all about Chinese nationalism and will please all fans of action combat movies in kung-fu style. I'm really curious about what a true master of martial arts would say about this production. :-) Overall impression: 30%.

Pivo přes ulici (1974)

anglais This animated short film is clearly the work of the artist Vladimír Jiránek. Although he was not involved in animated movies for long, everything he touched had quality. The slapstick nature makes fun of the hurried, over-technologized world, where getting to the other side of the street to a pub means starting a car and embarking on a crazy journey through multi-level intersections and liters of burned gasoline. Overall impression: 80%.

Jsouc na řece mlynář jeden (1971)

anglais An impressive animated horror, based on folk songs, with the expressive voice of narrator Miloš Kopecký. A treat with perfect artistic execution, a powerful point, and stylization. It is one of the peaks of Czech genre animation. However, the subject matter is really not for small children. Overall impression: 95%. In addition to Brdečka, the film was made by artist Eva Švankmajerová, which is noticeable from the artistic style resembling her paintings, and animator Jaroslav Doubrava, otherwise known for his collaboration with Macourek and Born.

Namalovaná písnička (1976)

anglais I would give this animated film 4 stars, but as a documentary, it is a bit too lyrical, drawn out, and lacking in information, although fans of animated creations may still find it charming. Overall impression: 45%.
