Les Affranchis (1990)

anglais Goodfellas is awesome, it exudes life experience and it is very likely one Martin Scorsese’s best film. Robert De Niro is excellent and Joe Pesci is truly unforgettable and deservedly received an Oscar. A masterpiece of world cinematography.

Bad Company (2002)

anglais Joel Schumacher's classic dynamic direction with fast camera, cuts, decent pace, and fast music is very good. The film could have been better, but let's be glad it turned out at least like this and it wasn't another flop like Batman's. I really liked Chris Rock's wisecracks and Anthony Hopkins' calmness. Surprisingly, a well-chosen cast.

Shakespeare in Love (1998)

anglais An unforgettable film that is not so much a comedy as a melancholic probe into the 16th century where literary history was written. Charming performances and a laid-back atmosphere.

Le Dernier Samouraï (2003)

anglais From poetic shots of the beautiful landscape of New Zealand to the thrilling final 20 minutes, everything is just as it should be in a Hollywood blockbuster. What's more, even though it is an American film, it doesn't look as American as it might seem at first glance, and Edward Zwick's tribute to the art of the Samurai is admirable. Tom Cruise is stunning, his portrayal of Nathan Algren is truly amazing. The director paid attention to every camera shot. The Last Samurai can be watched multiple times and it will still entertain you.

Full Metal Jacket (1987)

anglais The first half is amazing, it has an incredibly fast pace for a war film. Towards the end it relaxes a little, but then the director shows a bit of real war action, so I’m satisfied overall. Kubrick masterfully handles the psychology, which he focuses on more than grand action scenes.

Les Évadés (1994)

anglais Brilliantly distributed attributes of emotion, hardness, visual opulence, and a catchy script. Sure, it's not “reality”, but it's just on the edge. Timeless stuff, both in filmmaking and message.

Fusion (2003)

anglais I appreciate the quite decent idea of going down instead of up for a change, but there was a lack of budget. This film needed more visual effects, better actors, better music, more action-packed excitement, a better and more grandiose ending, and above all, more exaggeration. Armageddon fulfills all of this, The Core does not.

Le Seigneur des anneaux : Le retour du roi (2003)

anglais In terms of filmmaking (the book is of course better) The Return of the King appears to be the weakest of the trilogy. Yes, the film is still excellent and deserves five stars, but it's not quite the same. The first part is something indescribably amazing, a film told at a slow pace, highlighting the monumental quest with visual and narrative sophistication; simply put, The Fellowship of the Ring is "something new". Peter Jackson couldn't rely on that in The Two Towers, but he solved it splendidly. The pace sped up, the atmosphere got darker, there’s more action (the amazing Battle of Helm's Deep) and the result was again breathtaking. But what about the third part? There was no more room for improvement. The atmosphere is somewhat gone, the battles are even bigger, grander, and more computer-generated, and simply put, it's not as impressive as before, and together it feels slightly disjointed. Despite all of that, it still deserves a full score because it concludes a brilliant trilogy, and rightfully it is the biggest and most megalomaniacal of all three parts, which is no small feat.

Hôtesse à tout prix (2003)

anglais A calm and easygoing comedy. Although the story is simple and could be described as plain, it is delivered effectively and thanks to the two main actresses (Gwyneth Paltrow and Christina Applegate), and the good male acting duo, it made an impression on me.

Desperado 2 - Il était une fois au Mexique (2003)

anglais The sequel does not reach the quality of Desperado. The action is even more daring and the plot is even more convoluted, not to mention the large number of characters that will just confuse the viewers. The clutter of sets and costumes can be tolerated, but Rodriguez's effort to be very cool started to annoy me. Eva Mendes and Salma Hayek are a pleasure to watch. Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas are also okay. The rest is just average and routine work.
