Ray Harryhausen - Le titan des effets spéciaux (2011)

anglais Ray Harryhausen is a genius of film animation and stop motion. What he accomplished for cinema is essentially immeasurable. Still, this documentary, featuring truly significant figures including Ray, strives to capture that, and it succeeds. It's a beautiful overview of his work and, in fact, of the entire realm of fantasy filmmaking. Yes, I'm very biased, but not that biased.

Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975)

anglais As much as I want to hate this movie because it's so incredibly long, I have to admit that it has its merits. It makes you think. For example, why he does all of that, why he doesn't speak, why he doesn't sing, why he doesn't listen to something while doing chores. All this and more justifies what he ends up doing. Definitely an interesting and not nonsensical approach to film.

Paksa wayu (2004)

anglais Garuda falls a bit short in that the Thai film industry simply doesn't yet have the capacity to produce similar special effects-heavy films. In their execution, it simply looks bad for now, not to mention that there are many scenes that are only indoors because there weren't funds for more. The special effects scenes are very weak in places, not to mention the straightforwardness of the story, which really only makes for a two hour film with a lot of effort. I think it's clear that two hours is too long.

The Roaring Twenties (1939)

anglais James Cagney in another great role, showing that he could easily play a completely normal character, but circumstances dictate otherwise, and he must step into the role of a thug, whom you end up rooting for, and eventually, you'll have to endure his fate alongside him. It's a shame that it's not a bit more interesting in terms of the screenplay, and likewise, there's a lack of strong female performances, but Cagney and eventually Bogart make up for it.

Chakushin ari final (2006)

anglais In the end, One Missed Call Final is more of a better piece within the series, but in the realm of horror overall, it's more of an average film that doesn't bring anything surprising or original to the table. It just decently wraps up the whole series, which I thought couldn't surprise me after the second installment. It didn't surprise, but it didn't necessarily disappoint. That last part's not bad.

Les Survivants (2015)

anglais I like the fact that in this case, the disaster film is approached as a very dramatic romance, leading to an ending that simply can't be nice, yet the film is conceived as quite original, and there are ideas that surprise. I quite like dark romances and this particular dark romance isn't too bad.

L'Enfant massacre (1972)

anglais Stories of honor, at least the Japanese ones, are simply great. I feel that no one can match them in this because no nation has honor so ingrained in them. You want to watch these stories because they're good, they're brutal, they have great action scenes, and they're fearless. Moreover, there are really strong emotions here. I liked this better than the first episode.

Un après-midi de chien (1975)

anglais Al Pacino delivers yet another one of his incredible performances, under the direction of Sidney Lumet, who presents a film that could initially be seen as a comedy, but which has such a gradual escalation that you realize this can't end well, even though you might find yourself rooting for the anti-hero. Just like the others.

Le Sabre de la vengeance (1972)

anglais A successful story from Japan, which once again transported me to a time that is simply unique for stories. This is not a time you want to live in, but it is a time you want to hear about. And this is one of the stories that is definitely worth hearing. Man and child is a theme that's pretty much eternal at this point and still awesome.

Turbo Kid (2015)

anglais The brutality is highly exaggerated, and at times it's very absurd, but it's precisely in this that the beauty of this film lies, which I only fell in love with after the first half. At first, I thought it would just be an amateur mess, but this is a visually stunning spectacle, where some scenes literally blew my mind.
