Le Dernier des Mohicans (1936)

anglais For a while, I wondered what Randolph Scott looked like when he was young - well, here's my answer. The rendition of The Last of the Mohicans from that year isn't bad, but it could have used a bit more rawness and violence, which to some extent shapes the story as well. But the characters here are not badly acted, even if they are very theatrical in places.

The Last Face (2016)

anglais When you take two great actors and put them in a film that's supposed to open your eyes and make you cry at all costs, you really feel like crying, but not because the film is moving, but because of the tragedy and how much it wants you to bear the terrible weight of the world. I can't help but feel that this is disgustingly superficial and actually about nothing, and the romance is unnecessary.

L'Hypnotiseur (2012)

anglais Lasse Hallström knows how to make films that I like, but when he gets a script that thinks highly of itself but isn't as mysterious or suspenseful as the creators would like, he doesn't manage to extract anything truly substantial from it. Nordic noir isn't always a treasure; sometimes it's just a detective story.

La Proie (1995)

anglais Sure, this really isn't a film that will etch itself into one’s memory for its uniqueness, but on the other hand, it's quite bearable. There's character development, some tension, and it even involves some martial arts. Sure, you can have more fun with ninjas, but at least there's a little bit of it here.

Emergo (2011)

anglais Apartment 143 is a film that doesn't offend, but unfortunately, the competition in the chosen theme is so large and strong that something needs to distinguish the film. And here, it simply didn't succeed with anything. The characters aren't downright annoying, but the scenes aren't downright scary either. It's all bland, rather below average. Apartment 143 is the kind of movie you watch when you want to see a ghost film where the haunting didn't quite work out. And then you won't mind watching a proper classic afterward.

The Holly Kane Experiment (2016)

anglais It's not a complete disaster to be tragic, but it's just too stretched out to keep the viewer's full interest until the end. The film tries to be suspenseful, yet it doesn't have the disposition to do so given the script. Then there are scenes here that are quite expected, where you say to yourself, "Well, yeah, that had to happen.

affiche

Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid (2007) (concert)

anglais Freddie is in good form here, but it seemed to me that it's mainly the other members of Queen who truly shine and are giving their all. Some great songs were played here, and I must say that some of them resonate with me more in the studio version. Freddie still has such a great voice that simply pulls you in and takes you along with him. And I mean that in the best way.

Peaceful Warrior (2006)

anglais I can't help but feel that this film doesn't stand out in its genre in any way. Sure, it's interesting that it's about gymnastics, but it's still the same story of an athlete who doesn't give up. I'm not saying they're not strong stories, but without Nick Nolte, who handled his role excellently, I wouldn't enjoy watching the film.

affiche

Overboard (1987)

anglais Classic Garry Marshall, trying to please the audience. Well, okay, but at this stage of his career, he also wanted to entertain, which he succeeded in, mainly thanks to the great chemistry between Russell and Hawn, who clicked with each other since 1983 and here they just showed that their partnership is strong and also entertaining. A great and funny duo.

Le Grand Ziegfeld (1936)

anglais I can't help but feel that as a human story, it's quite classic, with a fairly standard development, only some scenes liven it up and give it soul. The musical and cabaret numbers are interesting, sometimes because of how long they are. But as an introduction to Flo Ziegfeld, this is definitely a good film that won't offend.
