Gypsy

Fendrik is a tramp of the sea - living in his boat, begging, poaching, stealing etc. He is an unscrupulous person, even among the tramps he is considered a bit too wild. A young girl, Josefa, escapes from her uncle and runs into Fendrik who takes her on board, forcing her to follow him. He humiliates her in different ways. A young fisherman, Oscar, who is in love with Josefa, follows them in his boat, trying to save her. Once Fendrik is out shooting auks, the birds are scared by a motorboat. He gets furious and shoots wildly towards the man in the boat, who turns out to be Oscar. Frightened by the thought that he has killed Oscar, Fendrik runs away towards the open sea where he falls overboard and drown. Oscar, however, recovers and marries Josefa. (Norsk Filminstitutt)
