HBO's socially distanced comedy Coastal Elites tells contemporary stories of characters breaking down and breaking through as they grapple with politics, culture, and the pandemic. Bette Midler, Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Levy, Sarah Paulson and Issa Rae star in this special presentation that explores our current world of deeply divided politics and the universal pursuit of human connection. Originally conceived for the Public Theater in New York, Coastal Elites took the leap from the stage to the screen at the beginning of the pandemic and evolved in real time as the unprecedented events of 2020 unfolded. The film spotlights five distinct and impassioned points-of-view across the United States. When the shutdown forces these characters to cope in isolation, they react with frustration, hilarity and introspection. (HBO Europe)

anglais You probably should know the actors and be very familiar with the US for this show to make any sense to you. Coastal Elites opens American topics during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover it is not so much about the actors rather than about stereotypes in America. The most enjoyable, according to my opinion, was Sarah Paulson and not only because she was the only one I really knew among the actors. She analyzed the New York elites and Trump’s voters, who are mostly American red-necks, in detail. Generally speaking it didn’t look like a comedy to me, but the political situation between the Liberals and the Republicans is a comedy in itself. ()
