Kat Valdez, une star de la scène musicale forme un couple hyper glamour avec sa future moitié, le jeune chanteur prodige Bastian. Alors que leur duo Marry Me cartonne au box-office, les amoureux ont prévu de se dire oui pour la vie devant un parterre de fans déchainés, lors d’une cérémonie retransmise en multiplexe. Dans la foule, Charlie Gilbert, un professeur de maths divorcé, qui chaperonne sa fille Lou accompagné de sa meilleure amie, assiste bien malgré lui à l’évènement. Mais quand Kat apprend quelques secondes avant la cérémonie que Bastian l’a trompée avec sa propre assistante, sa vie entière est remise en question. Elle entre alors sur scène, bouleversée, et c’est au moment où tout est sur le point de s’écrouler aux yeux de tous qu’elle se raccroche in extremis au visage d’un inconnu dans la foule. Si celui qu’elle connaissait a pu la trahir peut-être qu’un inconnu pourra la sauver. Suivant cette impulsion folle, elle décide d’épouser cet inconnu qui n’est autre que Charlie. Contre toute attente, ce qui avait commencé sur un coup de tête va se transformer en une véritable histoire d’amour. Mais deux personnes issues d’univers si différents peuvent-elles dépasser leurs préjugés et trouver un terrain d’entente, quand tout semble vouloir les séparer ? (Universal International FR)

Quite possibly the best romcom of recent times. The film benefits a lot from the cool central idea that makes it feel fresh. Jennifer Lopez plays a famous celebrity who is about to get married in style (20 million viewers), but just before the wedding she learns that her husband-to-be is cheating on her with her secretary, so she decides to make an unexpected gesture and thus marry a random person in the audience (Owen Wilson). Sure there's the classic romcom cliché and everyone knows how it's going to turn out in the end, but the premise alone makes Marry Me a compelling film where we watch two different people who know nothing about each other, live completely different lives and yet have to form a couple in front of an audience. It's funny in places, with good songs, the emotions worked, the acting was great, and surprisingly I was terribly entertained for the whole two hours. Ideally watched as a couple. 7.5/10.

Marry Me could be seen as an advert for of Jennifer Lopez herself. Story-wise, it's Notting Hill in a slightly more modern and upbeat package, and you have an idea of the direction the film will take, but it was still nice to watch. I found myself grinning from the heart a couple of times while watching this sometimes over-sweetened and rather unlikely romance. A mediocre and predictable romantic one-off that at times pleasantly impresses, and also entertains.
