anglais Zarah Leander's triumphant campaign through German movie theaters had very good results right from the start. After a dazzling start in the Austrian Premiere, and the even better melodrama To New Shores, comes the magnificent La Habanera. Detlef Sirk works Leander's potential to perfection, letting her experience a quick flare and a deep crash. While young Astrée travels with her aunt along the Puerto Rican coast, she falls in love with the haunting words of the song "Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt, von einem Herzen, das mir fehlt" but after only a decade, she feels like she's in a golden cage from which she can see no escape. She has a young son and her husband, Don Pedro (the diabolical Ferdinand Marian), is not the man she dreamed him to be. One of my eyes won't stay dry. ()
