It could have been a romance the likes that we haven’t had in years, but Nicolas Cage, Meg Ryan, the script and the director were against it, and so we have another in an endless line of bland sodas made by Hollywood. ()

anglais A very romantic and heartbreaking story about love that only manages to come true for a tiny moment. Meg Ryan was perfect as always, Nicholas Cage didn't quite work for me at first, but in the end probably better than some sweet comedian. I could feel the love and the passion and the longing. ()

anglais Another typical example of a film between three and four stars. City of Angels has everything that a proper romantic drama should contain. Brad Silberling does his job quite well, and his sensitive and conscientious direction is evident in every step. Overall, the formal aspect is excellent, but at times it's slightly kitschy and too polished. ()

anglais It's a nice story, no doubt, but still, the ending kind of disappointed me. It felt like there was no other way and it had to end this way, with a metaphorical ending on top of it. It's not bad, but maybe it shouldn't force the viewer into tears or other emotions so much. However, I can appreciate Nicolas Cage and this role suits his often quite affected acting quite well. Meg Ryan didn't dazzle me in any way, but she fit perfectly into that movie back then. Sometimes a bit calculated, but the idea with angels is not bad at all. ()
