anglais A traditional Czech crime drama with a divine cast, a very pissed-off Höger, the sexy Abrhám, while Brejchová is just there to be put on display. The plot is off, of course, and the title song is the most annoying example of "nails-scratching on the chalkboard." But just that's the way things were in this era. So in fact, we're all actually happy. ()

anglais In my opinion, an absolutely perfect film, spoiled perhaps only by the predictability of the final reveal. Karel Höger, as a progressively more and more paranoid doctor, is top-notch (watching him, I remembered Gene Hackman's performance in The Conversation) and does (un)believable things, and he has excellent teammates at hand, led by Martin Růžek, Slávka Budínová, Zdeněk Řehoř and Josef Abrhám, and the whole thing was filmed by suspense specialist Jiří Sequens, who in turn brought in his favorite team, including the famous Zdeněk Liška (that song!). Very, very good. It starts calmly and the ending is nerve-wracking. ()
