Le Tsar Alexandre II rencontre une jeune étudiante, Katia. Il comprend qu'il l'aime, tente de l'éloigner, mais ils finissent par se retrouver et elle devient sa maîtresse. Alexandre, aidé de Katia, prépare une constitution libérale, mais ces réformes le rendent hostile aux privilégiés sans pour autant satisfaire les révoltés contre le régime. L'impératrice meurt, le Tsar va enfin épouser Katia, son cadeau de couronnement est la promulgation de la nouvelle Constitution. Mais la veille du sacre, Alexandre périt dans un attentat... (Gaumont)

This isn’t Sissi V, but Katia, the uncrowned empress. Do you see the difference? ;) A French film with German-Austrian Schneider as Ekaterina Mikhailovna Dolgoruka, the morganatic wife of Russian Tsar Alexander II. Nikolayevich. He was played by Curd Jürgens, famous especially for his adaptation of Verne's Imperial Courier Michel Strogoff. As you can see, the Eurasian space is very small. I saw this film in Italian and French, so all I was missing were Portuguese or Norwegian subtitles... It’s a beautiful film that perfectly concluded the good career of Romy in the 1950s. The story of Katya begins in 1865 and ends with the Tsar's death in 1881.
