In 2001, six teenagers - a Buddhist, a Catholic, a Jew, a Pagan, a Muslim, and a Native American - represented a perfect encapsulation of Bay Area diversity as they discussed their spiritual beliefs in the documentary What Do You Believe? Seventeen years later, filmmaker Sarah Feinbloom poses questions anew to her subjects, and the shocking jump cut from adolescence to adulthood yields the enlightening and moving heart of her latest work. What changed during their journeys, and what remains the same? Still questioning and searching, each person thoughtfully articulates how the crucible of experience and life’s bitter challenges - including disease, substance abuse, attempted suicide, prejudice, and more - have tempered and clarified their identity and faith. While they can only speak for themselves, their stories evoke universal truths, such as the need for purpose and belonging, the desire to live one’s values, and how what endures most of all is love.
