The right to a piece of land which you can cultivate for a living and set up a house for yourself and your family. It should be a legal right. In the Netherlands, land rights are self-evident and well-organized. Each piece of land has been accurately identified and mapped by the land registery. In Displaced, in addition to the Netherlands, two countries are filmed where land rights are in their infancy and where the land registery plays a leading role. In Colombia there is burgeoning peace after more than 50 years of civil war. There is an opportunity to bring land rights to the farmers whohave lived up to now without any official certification in the jungle where the guerrilla war previously raged. The country has always been theirs, but the government has so far refused to set up certification of ownership for them. In Nepal, the earthquake of 2015 caused massive damage, thousands of deaths and nearly 1million displaced persons. However, the disaster brings about an opportunity for change: the labouring farmers who work on landowners' land, according to an old feudal system without having a proprietary certification, now get the opportunity to claim their rights for the countryside where they have already lived and worked for generations.
