A romantic Christmas comedy with an excellent cast and the beautiful scenery of the snowy High Tatras. A group of friends go to their traditional New Year’s skiing trip. On their holidays, sparks start flying in unexpected directions, one very old love comes back to life, and a live bear enters the story as well. A comedy full of blunders and misunderstandings with a clear message: Love has many forms and eventually finds everyone. (Finále Plzeň)

anglais I actually didn't find it that bad, then I saw the rating here and the reviews. Sure, it can't aspire to be movie of the year, but it's not even close to being the worst. It's actually sort of an attempt at an American romantic comedy, which we just don't get much of here in Central Europe. It’s a completely mediocre attempt, but perfectly watchable. Sure, it's all abbreviated, shallow (too many characters, too many stories played out, the relationships fail to have any depth afterwards), and everything has to have a happy ending (or a film with no message), but it's a romantic comedy anyway and it's good to watch while doing the ironing. The 52% it's got right now is perfectly adequate. ()

anglais A winter romantic comedy alternative. The cards are dealt in such a way that each age category has its own story, so theoretically everyone from teenagers to seniors will find something in it. Cliché after cliché, kitsch after kitsch. After the Mistresses series, I wanted to see the main foursome in a joint project one more time and that was the only thing worthwhile in the film. Otherwise, these are beautiful pictures from the pages of a magazine. Pauhofová shines like in old times in the arms of a millionaire. ()

anglais If you switch off your brain and ignore the downright unlikeable characters, Happy New Year is a fairly unpretentious Christmas flick with lots of familiar faces, nice natural locations, more than one funny moment (the sclerotic father led the way in this one) and a surprisingly decent soundtrack. français Un bon film détente pour Noël qui se prête encore à être vu au cinéma à la fin janvier quand le temps préprintanier annoncé n’est pas au rendez-vous. ()

anglais The story wasn't worth much and I wasn’t impressed by the performances either (despite the relatively good cast). It was melodramatic as usual (but that’s what you expect of Christmas movies). Most of the dialogues were unbearable and the terribly written Bartoška-Vášáryová plotline was like a pathetic soap opera. But among all that misery, there were a few moments when I had a decent laugh, so I feel like I can justify the one star. ()

anglais If I watched this movie on New Year's Eve, I'd probably die of boredom. I have slightly different ideas about romance and I was looking for a comedy component in vain. At least the music was listenable. The cast didn't impress me much either. Perhaps the only one worth mentioning is the traditionally excellent Emília Vášáryová. (30%) ()
