A well-known newspaper columnist, known for his investigative reporting, is mysteriously shot and hanging on for life in the hospital. Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Curtis (Benjamin Bratt) investigate the shooting and find themselves re-examining a sensationalized murder case that was closed twenty years ago.
