Kit, un Britannique d’origine vietnamienne, retourne à Saigon pour la première fois depuis qu’il a quitté le pays avec ses parents, alors qu’il n’avait que six ans, à la fin de la guerre américano-vietnamienne. Incapable de parler sa langue native, il se sent en décalage avec la culture locale, mais il renoue des liens avec son ami d’enfance Lee et tombe amoureux de Lewis, un Américain dont le père a servi pendant la guerre. A travers ce voyage, Kit va tenter de se réconcilier avec ses racines. (Optimale)

Monsoon has an exceedingly slow pace and the director obviously tried to express feelings of uprootedness and the search for (lost?) identity through the minimalism of the plot, which, however, affected the film's appeal to the audience. Despite the presence of several compelling themes, Monsoon skims over the surface, offering a reprehensibly shallow story, which is not enlivened by the Vietnamese locations and culture, nor by the homosexual storyline. A flat film in terms of story, emotion and atmosphere. Shame!
