Josef is a writer who gains an unexpected ability – just like the alterego from his short story. Extraordinary hearing allows him to hear not only the voices of other people, but especially their thoughts. The clash of strangers and one’s own ideas about oneself will open Joseph’s eyes. When his young girlfriend Katka tells him that she’s pregnant, Josef knows that this is his last chance to organize his life. He decides to marry her and settle family relationships. (3Kino Fest)

anglais The director is said to have said: "I want our movie to talk about serious things with sarcasm." If Martin Šulík really had this in mind, I feel that he really succeeded, because that is exactly how I perceive The Man with Hare Ears. This rather an odd movie, sometimes hard to grasp, for some (unknown to me) reason got under my skin. The opinions and observations of the main character Josef (in a reserved but absolutely precise performance by Miroslav Krobot) appealed to me a lot, as he takes stock of his life so far in a rather peculiar way, while getting into a number of bizarre situations. The audience's attention should also be drawn to the magnificent camerawork by Martin Štrba and the extremely impressive performance of Oldřich Kaiser in a supporting role, for which he was rightly awarded the Czech Lion. I shall say nothing more about this apart from that I'm just sure I will watch this movie again some day. (85%) ()

anglais The Czech Day of the Wacko. A very well-rehearsed dig at their own nest, i.e. intellectual elitists past their zenith, with all the requisite wisdom and egotism. As in its Polish predecessor, I see my own future disaster quite presciently, because when I look into my own family and its surroundings, it is practically Krobot himself with rabbit ears. With this comes probably another problem the film will have with how it is received, which is that for most cyclists, realtors, and economists of all kinds this film will probably be completely incomprehensible, because the main character is completely outside their environment. PS: I laughed out loud in the cinema at the approval committee scene. ()
