Patriotic Highway

After more than 15 years as an international lawyer, Marie is facing one of her greatest challenges. She receives the prestigious task as judge in a massive corruption scandal surrounding Kosovo’s war hero and strongman Limaj. Marie is motivated by the belief that justice shall prevail and previously collaborated with the international court at the Hague. The trial is overseen by the EU-managed EULEX, whose goal is to establish a legally secure system in the fledgling nation. Without taking a stance and by allowing the accused, select witnesses, and the judge speak, the film shows how difficult it is to remain uncorrupt. When the very judge is accused of corruption, the simple truths are turned upside down. Who is innocent? And which motivations form our goals and decisions? (Göteborg Film Festival)
