A thriller based on true events from a women's asylum with the beautiful Christina Ricci. A journalist goes undercover to investigate the asylum, but she is deemed “positively demented” and is kept there for a while, where she experiences the inhumane conditions firsthand. As a TV movie, it is fairly decently shot and acted, and there are even some plot surprises. However, the film progresses at a slower pace and the experiments, the treatments and the torture take a secondary, possibly even tertiary role. I prefer genre-similar films like A Cure for Wellness, Stonehearst Asylum or even Ratched. But fans of asylum settings should give Nellie Bly a chance. 6/10. ()
