Ponds & Reservoirs (S01E05)

For centuries, countless dams and reservoirs have been built across the Czech landscape. Their underwater ecosystems are as rich and important as their surroundings. In the past, there were more than 70,000 ponds built in the country. Today, the number is less than a third. Those remaining serve countless important purposes including sustaining groundwater, creating fishing areas, upkeeping water ecosystems, and serving as habitats of unique aquatic plants and animals. Additionally, these dams serve as water supplies and alternative sources of energy for the population. Despite their undeniable and lasting importance, the underwater ecosystems in these dams remain largely undiscovered. (Academia Film Olomouc)
