Smile is an honest expression of inner struggle, a young woman living in a community that left no room for freedom of sexuality. In a love letter to his mother, Gloria Carter, JAY-Z, tells her story of raising a preadolescent son, whilst living in Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects. The piece explore’s the battle against one’s hardship, environment, and unaccepting culture - while exploring self-identity. (South by Southwest Film Festival)
