Jalmá

Résumés(1)

The chants and dances are perhaps the most characteristic traits of the Yuman communities. Cyclical chants accompanied by the sound of a rattle or jalmá, executed by one or more singers in unison, among a variety of movements and other symbols, determine rituals with specific meanings, from the funeral ceremonies of mourning to healing rituals and the kuri kuri festive dance.
