Every year on the 1st of May, the Berliner Philharmoniker celebrate the anniversary of its foundation.
The Berliner Philharmoniker, one of the world's most prestigious orchestras, was created in 1882. This year, the orchestra celebrates its 132nd birthday on May 1st under the baton of Maestro Daniel Barenboim, who made his debut with the orchestra 50 years ago.
The concert will open with Otto Nicolai's Overture to Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor (The Merry Wives of Windsor), a partition premiered in Berlin in 1849, inspired by William Shakespeare's comedy of the same name. In keeping with the theme of William Shakespeare, Edward Elgar's famous Falstaff will follow. The concert will end with Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's most famous symphony, the Fifth Symphony.
Scheduled every year in an iconic city of the European cultural life, the Europakonzert will this time take place at the Berliner Philharmoniker's culturally significant venue: the Berliner Philharmonie. (texte officiel du distributeur)
