Suspicion

Apart from the strong cast, there is no objective reason for this film to have a rating close to 70%. Unfortunately, the script is naive and the resulting crime story is both fabricated and influenced by the ideology of its time. The cinematography, which tries to create atmosphere through facial details and interesting angles, is worth mentioning, but the aforementioned limitations drag the film down to the average level of its time, and the beginning of the 70s was generally not favorable for Czech cinema. At the time, the glamorous environment of the international diplomatic corps, which stood out from the greyness of real socialism, probably played a positive role for the audience. Overall impression of this "thriller": 45%. (16/06/2010)
