October 1990, blockade of the taxi-drivers. Ádám Tanos, a painter, an ex-convict of 1956, is visited by an art dealer – the son of the prosecutor back then, the future director of the Art Hall – designing an album of Tanos's drawings. The association of 1956 is established, the secretary of the association being Ádám's former prison commander. The bitterness of the painter, alienated from the world, is growing all the time. He is obsessed with balancing on the dead-end rail next to his house. In the separated part of the flat, once a sculptor's studio, lives his wife Éva, who the painter treats as a complete stranger. A former painting student, the beautiful Gerda, turns up, who, on behalf of her editor, is looking for an "idol" of the new era. She stirs up the stagnant water, and on the past being recalled, Éva tries to commit suicide. On the night of reconciliation, Ádám leaves for good. From now on Gerda, too, is a rail walker.
