Naomi is an attractive young woman and a talented, classically trained pianist. Following a bad relationship and some failed music competitions, she feels she has nothing, nor anyone to play for anymore, thus she decides to move to Jerusalem and start afresh. She finds a job as cataloguer and the only apartment she can afford is located in an orthodox neighbourhood where the previous tenant, a Christian, Russian lady, died in mysterious circumstances. Right off the bat she bonds with her neighbour's son, Simcha, a musically gifted wallflower who regularly sneaks into her apartment passing through the open window just to play his favourite instrument, the piano. Naomi doesn't find it easy to adjust to her new life surrounded by orthodox wingnuts and her friendship with an Italian monk, who teaches her how to play the pipe organ, begets a series of misunderstandings and unpleasant events.
