An inspiring verse from Habitaciones separadas, perhaps the most decisive book in the long trajectory of Luis García Montero, gives the title to and summarises this polyphonic portrait which is also a generational song and a plea for poetry as a "useful art": not poetry that is understood but a poetry that understands, as Eduardo Mendicutti specifies. Under the layers of the public figure, something like a rock star in the fertile poetic smallholding, the curious spectator will find lesser known perspectives: that of the family sitting room in which the father recites Espronceda or that of La Tertulia and other legendary hangouts in the Granada of the 80s where Luisito paraded his ungainly adolescence. We will always have to be grateful to cinema for, among many other things, this capacity to bear witness. (Seville European Film Festival)
