Horváth Gábor, a doctor, fights his own battle to improve the welfare and health of the village. In his fight he is assisted by sister Jolán, member of the green cross. His wife is, on the other hand, not exactly supportive of her husband's ideas. She is trying to fight off her boredom by an affair she has with a young provincial count. An American film actor arrives at the village, where a film is going to be shot. The actor seduces Mrs. Horváth, who leaves her husband. The blow gets the doctor into a state of indifference, he takes to morphine and drinking. After a period of serious mental suffering, Horváth re-discovers his spiritual peace and happiness as sister Jolán's companion. (texte officiel du distributeur)
