The Silence of The Flies

Marcelina (48) and Mercedes (56) live in neighboring towns of farming communities in the Venezuelan Andes. Both share the same tragic story: their adolescent daughters have committed suicide, like many other people in that rural area during the last years. Through the memory of his losses and his affliction, the film takes us to a world of tangible pain in which silence has become a very significant feature of this idyllic and visually powerful but violent natural scene. Life stories, psychological autopsies, evocative objects and art are intermingled in The Silence of the Flies, a documentary essay that follows the daily life of these people who inhabit a world of grief and guilt, where the silence in vain aspires to make them forget.
