Filmmaker Chris Brown (Fanny, Annie & Danny, FFF 2011) builds an ambitious hybrid-drama by collaborating with six real-life seniors in the small town of Sonora, California. The film tackles a wide range of universal issues - from choosing a college or considering service in the military, to neglectful parents, racism, sex, and sexuality. Creating a specific story for each student, Brown allows for the actors to embrace the situation and deliver in such a way that viewers may feel they are following the characters through their actual lives, rather than watching a performance. Sometimes funny, often brutal, but always honest, THE OTHER KIDS is a must-see addition to the genre of coming-of-age films, one that will stand out for its genuine and brave portrayal of what kids must overcome in the final days of high school.
