Season 1 (2017) (S01)

anglais Season 1 was a huge disappointment for me. While the theme has a lot of potential, the creators just drowned it in episodes without a coherent story. It was more of a patchwork of unrelated storylines pieced together by an autistic, substance-addicted individual. The few episodes that didn’t follow this pattern were quite decent, and I wish there were more of them. As a longtime World of Warcraft player, I appreciate the main character's name, but as a fan of well-played psychopaths, I’m disappointed by the absence of Chernobog in Wisconsin. ()

Le Verger des os (2017) (S01E01)

anglais I didn't read the original book, so I didn't know what I was getting into, and to be honest, I still don't know even after the first episode. The classic plot was clear, but when it came to the mystery, things were happening, but the explanations somehow eluded me. I will try to understand the plot in the following episodes, hopefully, I'll manage... ()

Le Secret des cuillères (2017) (S01E02)

anglais Although I have somewhat orientated myself, besides the traditionally great Peter Stormare, I have nothing to praise. Additionally, considering that none of my ancestors owned any plantations in the American South, I refuse to feel guilty for the cruel fate of the first rappers, so the episode introduction went completely over my head. I will definitely watch the rest of the series, but I have a strong feeling that I won't exactly enjoy it. ()

La Tête dans les flocons (2017) (S01E03)

anglais With every episode, I suffer more and more. The pale rider apparently tans intensively, and I assume they ride on a black steed to make all the homies happy. As if that wasn't enough, I had to watch The Last Days of Sodom in an Arab version, listen to pseudo-intellectual conversations about nothing, and hear American actors desperately trying to pronounce Russian words. It's all such a big cramp that desperately tries to convince me that it's a coherent story. Maybe I would believe it, but I don't have a good relationship with drugs, and without them... ()

En route (2017) (S01E04)

anglais A more cohesive plot brought some improvement, I was mostly entertained by the second half of the episode, when Laura transformed into Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and subsequently Death suits her. I had bad luck in that I think Emily Browning has the same amount of sex appeal as Calista Flockhart, but Indy would surely appreciate it. I consider this episode to be the most successful so far, it seems that the screenwriters haven't lost their usual acid. ()

Ton parfum citronné (2017) (S01E05)

anglais Special, the series gradually lost stars for me, but in the previous episode it gained some again and I actually enjoyed this episode. Well, well! It is evident that this is happening because the hallucinations generated by banned substances have disappeared, so the plot started to make sense. Additionally, after Peter Stormare, another great psychotic, Crispin Glover, appeared in the series, which made me extremely happy. I would just like to appeal to the creators, if they cast Emily Browning in their future projects, to consistently cover her frail body with a feathered coat and thus take into consideration viewers with weakened health who could otherwise seriously endanger themselves. I haven't been so terrified in a long time. ()

L'Exécution des dieux (2017) (S01E06)

anglais I praised the previous episode, but in this episode, time somehow stood still. The story practically didn't move forward, unless we count the shift between states, another god appeared, but didn't stay long, and there was a lot of driving by cars, probably so that the creators could show at least some movement. ()

Une prière pour Sweeney le Dingue (2017) (S01E07)

anglais Leprechaun is indeed a nice jerk, so I enjoy it, but creating a episode just for it, which is absolutely off-topic, seems unnecessary to me. When I observe it like that, the series could have easily ended two episodes earlier and nothing would have happened, because the sixth and seventh episode were just filler, without advancing the story in any way. ()

Viens voir Jésus (2017) (S01E08)

anglais If I counted correctly, this was only the second episode that was worth it. The plot did not stretch any unnecessary nonsense, Kristin Chenoweth was just as good as in the series "Tell Me Who Killed You" and the rachitic girl had her coat on the whole time. I just didn't quite understand the character of Shadow Moon, I keep wondering why he's been trying to find out Mr. Wednesday's real name for several episodes when his acquaintances call him Votane. Is Moon retarded or what? Well, never mind, after this episode, I became interested in the continuation anyway, which I wouldn't have believed yesterday. ()

Season 2 (2019) (S02)

anglais Getting through the second season of American Gods was a largely excruciating experience. All too often, I was bored (and I mean bored out of my mind), which was caused, among other things, by the chaotic plot (if there was any) and a large number of philosophical dialogues or monologues. The worst thing by far, however, was the constant harping on the subject of the suffering of black people in America; the more the filmmakers push it, the more negative my attitude towards black people is. It started off as neutral, but a few more experiences like this and I might start cutting out holes in the sheets. I think I'll probably watch the third season, but I'm already apprehensive about it. ()

La Maison sur le Rocher (2019) (S02E01)

anglais Let's start on a positive note. I really enjoyed the gathering in that peculiar house; it was perfect. But that's about where my positives end for this episode. After the fantastic finale of the first season, I found myself quite disappointed. The absence of Ostara and that special atmosphere left me wanting, and despite plenty of dialogue, the plot didn't quite captivate me. 3*- ()

Le Magicien (2019) (S02E02)

anglais In the second episode, the creators took a split approach to the plot, weaving together two timelines. While the storyline with the leprechaun and the corpse bride held some watchable moments, Shadow's childhood was portrayed as yet another rendition of the same old story which I'm starting to find really annoying. ()

Muninn (2019) (S02E03)

anglais The third episode wasn't a complete letdown; there were moments where it seemed like things were stirring. However, it leaned heavily into mysterious dialogues that hinted at something, though I struggled to grasp exactly what. New Media left me a bit disappointed; I get that they were missing an Asian character in their lineup, but I'll certainly miss Gillian Anderson. ()

La Plus Grande Histoire de tous les temps (2019) (S02E04)

anglais So here's what I'm pondering: "Did the fourth episode actually move the story forward in any significant way?" Honestly, not really, if at all. It felt mostly lackluster, with the creators attempting to "spice it up" by delving further into the plight of African Americans. ()

Le Chemin des morts (2019) (S02E05)

anglais There were attempts at weaving in some plot amidst the chatter, although it still felt a bit drowned out. I'd lean towards a weaker three-star rating, but let's be honest, Emily Browning shouldn't ever take off her dress. She looks like a walking advertisement for hunger. ()

Donar le Grand (2019) (S02E06)

anglais This is so frustrating... Instead of watching American Gods, I felt like I stumbled into some bizarre cabaret or even a musical – two things I really don't vibe with (to put it mildly). The plot veered completely off the main storyline, feeling both foolish and downright dull at times. ()

Le Trésor du Soleil (2019) (S02E07)

anglais I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by my own rating for the seventh episode — I enjoyed the episode dedicated to my favorite character, Mad Sweeney, who had me nodding along in agreement about gods and churches. This was the highlight of the second season for me. ()

Ombre Moon (2019) (S02E08)

anglais The finale wasn't the disaster I had anticipated from my accumulated experiences. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't an extraordinary masterpiece either. But as they say, in the world of the blind, the one-eyed man is king (and no, that wasn't a reference to Odin). The creators have shown me several times before that it could get much worse... ()
