D'une beauté envoûtante, la Comtesse Karnstein trouve prétexte, lors d'un bal donné par le général von Spielsdorf, de l'agonie d'un ami pour confier sa fille Marcilla à son hôte. Une ruse car la Comtesse et Marcella ne sont qu'une seule et même personne, une vampire qui, plus encore que les hommes, séduit les femmes pour les mordre et les garder sous son emprise, aptes à assouvir ses désirs. Mais, sur son parcours jalonné de cadavres, la Comtesse voit soudain se dresser deux obstacles, le général von Spielsdorf et le baron von Hartog, l'un déterminé à venger sa fille, l'autre sa sœur...
