Kurta Gyuri asks her sweetheart, the beautiful Gypsy girl, Rózsi to dance. His wealthy uncle does not approve of their marriage. The Gypsy Zsiga's other son, Peti is in love with Évi, daughter of the wealthy farmer, Márton. But Évi's shrewish mother stands in the way of their happiness. The army wants to recruit Gyuri for 12 years, but it is the unhappy Peti who joins the army to help his sister. While he is away, they try to match Gyuri and Évi, defaming Rózsi. Even Peti is reported to be dead. But he returns as an outstanding musician with his supporter, the count and they can arrange for the marriages of the two original pairs.
