Pantomime

Keeping a small community theatre open is tough in a time when arts subsidies are slashed and the cast must rely on ticket sales to keep afloat. Panto! is a backstage pass to the hilarity that ensues while theatre members build scenery and make costumes on a minuscule budget–starring malfunctioning pyrotechnics and an unexpectedly exposing donkey costume. As for the actors, the film follows their attempts to master the singing, dancing and acting required for a pantomime–a greater challenge than Shakespeare, according to one actor–and uncovers the vital role the theatre plays in its community.
