The film focuses on the possibility of being purified through a journey that one must undertake. Such is the adventure experienced by the film's protagonist, whose journey leads from the dark pit of ignorance to the light of knowledge. "The film (Čaroděj OZ's debut) was inspired by a one-meter-deep and three-meter-wide hole dug in the garden of the director's house. One morning he woke up and found that the hole could be a fitting symbol for the world, dug into and defined in the Earth" (Vladimír Gaar, Meliés Anthology, 1983).
