The Good Lie

Je longtemps depuis que je n'ai pas vu un film qui défend aussi clairement, avec force et sans sentimentalisme les valeurs familiales. Et en même temps, qui confronte de manière aussi intelligente, émotionnelle et humoristique deux cultures diamétralement opposées. La scène où les autochtones errant dans le désert plantent une paille creuse dans le sol pour boire de l'eau souterraine, puis quelques années plus tard, plantent instinctivement une paille en plastique dans une tasse de MacDonald's pour boire du Coca-Cola, est géniale. Très bien écrit, joué et réalisé. J'étais ému. Witherspoon vend le film avec des affiches, mais n'apparaît dans le film qu'après une demi-heure. Le rôle principal est joué par un groupe de Soudanais, dont au moins "elle" n'est pas une actrice (ce qui n'est pas évident). Avec la production de Brian Grazer et Ron Howard. You know that what makes a quality film is the issues it deals with and not the execution, right? There are a lot of clichés, just enough sentiment and the acting is great, or rather the black Sudanese faces give it a strange, raw and fresh touch of reality. Otherwise, it's a fairytale, with an expected "everything fits together beautifully" scenario, and in fact that's about the last thing that really happens in this clash of two different worlds, off-screen. The film is actually quite good and it shows that moving to America with the expectation that it will be the promised land is a big lie. What bothered me immensely, though, was the calculating nature of Reese's character. She is such a clichéd character - a woman who doesn't care about anything until she meets completely different people and realizes what she had done wrong - it's just unpleasant. (17/12/2014)
