Rumbling is a dramatic feature film based on a true contemporary story, spiced with real-life events taken from media reports mixed in. It showcases tales of domestic violence, acts of self-defense, standing up for what is right and helping victims in need. The film is about an endangered human archetype, one whose sense of justice and freedom of speech borders the edge of law and social norms. It was originally planned as a documentary about people whose nature defies societal norm. This background gives the film a credible amount of crude realism. As a feature film Rumbling is set in the world of motorcycles, rock music and artists, where people valuing fairness and honesty blend in their inherent explosive emotions, rumbling in the heart and love for absolute beauty. Problème réside dans le rythme désespérément lent et on peut dire que le film est avant tout caractérisé par l’ennui, y compris au niveau de son scénario. En gros, je m’attendais à autre chose ; je pensais être témoin d’événements passés, mais en substance, l’intrigue est contemporaine et, du passé, elle ne traite que des conséquences. Les relations entre certains personnages auraient pu être davantage creusées ; beaucoup de choses sont dissoutes et perdues. D’un autre côté, j’ai aimé la distribution avec le non-acteur Hajíček, lequel convient joliment au rôle d’Adam. Quant aux actrices slovaques, il n’y a pas grand-chose à dire à part qu’elles jouent toujours brillamment. En dernier lieu, j’ai beaucoup apprécié la BO du film. Le niveau est correct, bon pour un début ; le tout aurait juste mérité d’être peaufiné.

Rumbling only make sense if you read Zika's biography. The individual shots are very good, and the cast is almost generous. However, Tomáš Hajíček can't speak, which is a major problem for the main role, and the diverse cohort of actors has nothing to do, while the individual scenes are episodes that say nothing and don't follow each other. This is unfortunate, because if Zika had gotten a good director and dramaturgist, and stayed in production and especially behind the camera, something very attractive could have been made. Something unprecedented by Czech standards. Instead, we get a more expensive amateur work that could compete at most alongside student films from the lower grades.
